To assist with the transition to lower carbon transportation options like electric vehicles (EVs), the province of British Columbia is working with BC Hydro and Fortis BC to offer rebates in BC for the purchase and installation of Level 2 EV charging stations through the CleanBC program. Rebates are available for:

  • Multi-unit residential buildings single-family homes (EV Home Charger)

For a limited time, the CleanBC program has increased its maximum contribution to:

  • Up to $2,000 per Level 2 charging station

  • Up to $97,000 for EV Infrastructure through BC Hydro’s EV Ready Plan

  • Up to 50% (fifty percent) of your total project costs through NRcan (Maximum of $5,000,000)

  • Up to $700 per residential single-family home

The different level of EV chargers:

Level 1 charger - (120V) Plugs into a regular 15A or 20A Receptacle. Supplies up to 5 miles of Range Per Hour.

Level 2 charger - (240V) This is the most common EV charger, ranging from 20A to 80A. Supplies power between 9 and 52 miles of Range Per Hour.

Level 3 Charger - (480V) Also known as DC fast charging, this type of equipment is not compatible with all vehicles and is not common in Canada yet. Supplies up to 170 miles of Range in just 30 minutes of charging.

Level 3 Charging (Tesla Supercharger) - The Tesla Supercharger will only work with the Tesla Model S, providing half a charge in approximately 20 minutes.

Electric Vehicle incentives

  • Program Offerings Include:

    -Rebate of up to $8000 when purchasing an Electric Vehicle in BC.

    -Homeowners can get up to $350 to install a Level 2 charging station in a single family home.

    -Strata’s and businesses can apply for a rebate of up to $2000 per station, as well as 5 hours of free support services.

  • EV Incentive Choices

    The SCRAP-IT Program is working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality by getting older vehicles off the road. A voluntary early retirement vehicle program that provides incentives to help British Columbians replace higher polluting vehicles with cleaner forms of transportation.

    -A $6000 rebate when you purchase a qualifying new Electric Vehicle.

    -A $3000 rebate when you purchase a qualifying used Electric Vehicle.

  • Zero-Emmission Vehicles

    For businesses: enhanced capital cost allowances (CCAs) enable a higher deduction in the year that an electric vehicle is put on the road (up to 100% of $55,000, prior to 2024).
